Arrive Ready is a free online program for incoming first-year Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George campus students. Participate in one or more of the following modules and sign up to join or lead an Arrive Ready study group to prepare for your first year of studies, meet new friends and connect with professors.
Arrive Ready to Study Social Sciences or Economics
Dates: July 24-August 18, 2023
Schedule: Online asynchronous (you are not required to attend at a specific time) modules, with optional synchronous study group
Get an inside view of what to expect in your upcoming social science classes. Arrive Ready learning modules will be available to you in Quercus, U of T’s online learning platform starting July 24. Each week, you can engage in new self-guided learning activities developed with U of T faculty members to prepare for your first year. Activities include university-level lectures, academic prep material, tools to develop your study skills and helpful tips from upper-year students.

ARRIVE READY TO STUDY SOCIAL SCIENCES — NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Arrive Ready to Study Social Sciences offers an inter-disciplinary introduction to subjects including sociology, health studies, equity studies, Indigenous studies, political science and more. You will be automatically enrolled in Arrive Ready to Study Social Sciences unless you register for Arrive Ready to Study Economics below.
ARRIVE READY TO STUDY ECONOMICS — REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JULY 21

Arrive Ready to Study Economics has been specially designed for students in the Social Sciences admission category who wish to study economics. Here you will explore introductory economics concepts, learn and apply academic study skills and prepare for the first-year course Principles of Microeconomics (ECO101).
Note: Students are eligible to participate in one Arrive Ready to Study module. All students who do not register for Arrive Ready to Study Economics will be automatically enrolled in Arrive Ready to Study Social Sciences.
Arrive Ready to Study Social Sciences and Arrive Ready to Study Economics both include a self-guided Preparing for University Math Program (PUMP) module with pre-recorded lectures and exercises. This optional module will review high school-level math content to help prepare you for first-year math courses (MAT135 or MAT137).

Meet your peers and future classmates by signing up to lead or join an Arrive Ready study group! All students are encouraged to participate in an Arrive Ready study group to deepen your learning of course material and start building your U of T community. Study groups will meet weekly for the four-week duration of Arrive Ready to Study.

Arrive Ready to Communicate in English
Arrive Ready to Communicate in English
Dates: July 10 – 21, 2023
Time Commitment: 20 hours
Class Schedule: This is an online, asynchronous program with optional online, weekly synchronous tutorials Thursdays at 9:10 am (ET)
University education primarily involves expressing your understanding of your subject area and clearly articulating your ideas. This module is designed for students whose first language is not English to help you learn how to effectively express academic ideas in English through writing, speaking and course participation.

Arrive Ready to Communicate in English: Communicating with Peers
Dates: July 24 – August 18, 2023
Time Commitment: 12 hours
Class Schedule: This is an online, asynchronous program with optional online, weekly synchronous tutorials Thursdays at 9:10 am (ET)
This module is designed for students whose first language is not English to gain confidence and practice communicating with peers in study groups during the Arrive Ready program and beyond. Students will learn and practice skills and proactive behaviours to support group communication, discuss course material, build friendships and pose questions to peers, instructors and teaching assistants (TAs).

Arrive Ready Math: Pre-University Math Preparation (PUMP)
Arrive Ready Math: PUMP I and II are six-week courses designed for students to review high school-level math content and prepare for university math courses. These courses involve weekly lectures, tutorials and assessment activities. Note: Students can register for one PUMP course; a self-guided version of relevant PUMP topics will be provided to all incoming students who do not register for the course-based version.
PUMP I
Dates: July 11 - August 24, 2023
Time Commitment: 8 - 10 hours per week for six weeks
Class Schedule: This is an online, synchronous course. Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 am - 1 pm (ET); Tutorials: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-5 pm (ET)
PUMP Level I is ideal for students who seek a grounding in pre-calculus topics, for students engaged in studies outside the field of mathematics who want to become functionally literate in math, for students who wish to learn (or re-learn) high school pre-calculus, and/or any student intending to enrol in MAT135H or MAT133Y1.

PUMP II
Dates: July 10 - August 23, 2023
Time Commitment: 8 - 10 hours per week for six weeks
Class Schedule: This is an online, synchronous program. Lectures: Mondays and Wednesdays, 3-5 PM (ET); Tutorials: 11 am - 1 pm (ET)
PUMP Level II is ideal for students who seek a review of high school pre-calculus followed by an intro to logic, problem solving and methods of proof, or for any student intending to enrol in MAT137Y1, MAT157Y1 or MAT223H1.

Arrive Ready to Write in Social Sciences
Dates: July 10 – 21, 2023
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours
Class Schedule: This online program can be taken as a self-guided module with optional classes, asynchronous recordings of all classes and optional writing activities. Alternatively, this online program can be taken as a course-based module with required, synchronous classes and writing activities. Synchronous class times will be:
- Tuesday, July 11 from 11 am - 12 pm (ET)
- Thursday, July 13 from 5 pm - 6 pm (ET)
- Tuesday, July 18 from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm (ET)
- Thursday, July 20 from 12 pm - 1 pm (ET)
Arrive Ready to Write will help you prepare for the transition to university-level writing in Social Sciences courses. Upon completion of Arrive Ready to Write, you will be able to:
- Apply key concepts, skills and strategies in university-level reading and writing to your coursework
- Seek out and make use of available campus resources as part of your regular university life and work
- Work collaboratively and constructively within a scholarly community
