Get an inside view of what to expect in your upcoming mathematical and physical sciences classes. Modules will include university-level lectures, practice quizzes and academic prep material to prepare you for Calculus I (MAT 135) and Calculus with Proofs (MAT 137). You will also learn tools to develop your study skills and receive helpful tips from upper-year students.
Arrive Ready to Study Mathematical and Physical Sciences was developed in collaboration with Mathematical and Physical Sciences faculty, Professor Xiaoyue Cui (Instructor of MAT137, Calculus with Proofs) and Ping, a fourth-year student studying mathematical applications in economy, finance, economics and computer science.
Learning modules will be available starting July 21 on your Arrive Ready Quercus page — no registration required.
Learning modules include:
- Understanding University Expectations for Success
- Note-Taking in University Lectures
- Effective Reading Strategies
- Critical Writing
- Effective Collaboration and Group work
- Studying & Test Preparation for Mathematics
Each module will take approximately two hours to complete. You can access the modules independently whenever your schedule allows, without the worry of marks or deadlines.
Complete at least three learning modules to be eligible to receive an Arrive Ready Certificate of Completion!
Preparing for University Math Program (PUMP) Modules
All incoming students can join Preparing for University Math Program (PUMP) courses and learning modules. PUMP I and II are six-week non-credit courses designed for students to review high school-level math content and prepare for university math courses. These courses involve weekly lectures, tutorials and assessment activities. Students who choose not to register for PUMP I or II will be provided a self-guided version of PUMP that contains learning modules tailored to support your preparation for each first-year mathematics course. Students unsure about which first-year math courses to pursue can explore the Guide to First-Year Mathematics.
Registration for one free PUMP learning module (PUMP I or PUMP II) through Arrive Ready is only available to newly-admitted, first-year students in the Faculty of Arts & Science at St. George campus. All other interested students must register through the Department of Mathematics.
