Arrive Ready is a free online program for incoming first-year Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George campus students. Register for one or more of the following modules to prepare for your first-year studies, make friends and connect with your future professors.
Arrive Ready to Study Humanities
Dates: July 26-August 20, 2021
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week

Meet the Student Team: Annie and Cara
Get an inside view of what to expect in your upcoming university classes. Learning activities will include university-level lectures, academic prep material and tools to develop your study skills for humanities courses such as philosophy, history, literature, media studies and more, in addition to helpful tips from upper-year students. All students will be placed in a weekly study group where you’ll meet future friends and classmates.
Optional Add-On Modules
Students have the option to sign up for an Arrive Ready to Write module to prepare for university-level writing and/or an Arrive Ready to Communicate in English module to help develop English language communication skills. These self-guided modules will each require an additional 3-5 hours per week.
Lead an Arrive Ready Study Group
Start your leadership journey at U of T! You are invited to be a study group leader as part of Arrive Ready to Study Humanities. Group leaders will receive training from an upper-year student on how to facilitate your study group — no experience necessary. You can sign up to lead a study group when you register for Arrive Ready to Study Humanities.

Arrive Ready to Write in Humanities
Dates: July 12-23, 2021
Time Commitment: 12-15 hours per week

Arrive Ready to Write will help you prepare for the transition from high school to university-level writing. Over the course of this program, you will complete and receive feedback on several short writing activities, based on a shared reading. The program has been created for humanities students, to support student writing skills from within their academic field of study. This is an asynchronous program, meaning students are not required to attend at any specific date or time.
Upon completion of Arrive Ready to Write, you will be able to:
- Apply key concepts and skills in university-level reading and writing to your coursework
- Seek out and make use of available campus resources as habitual academic practice
- Work collaboratively and constructively within a scholarly community
Arrive Ready to Communicate in English
For students whose first language is not English, these modules will help you build your English language skills and practice communicating with other students.
Arrive Ready to Communicate in English: Express Ideas with Integrity
Dates: July 12-16, 2021
Time Commitment: 10-12 hours
Learn how to effectively express your academic ideas in English and incorporate academic sources into your writing.
Arrive Ready to Communicate in English: Strategies for Effective Course Participation
Dates: July 19-23, 2021
Time Commitment: 10-12 hours
Most courses include participation grades that reflect your engagement with course content. These grades are usually measured through your activity in tutorials, seminars or office hours with your professors. In this module, you’ll learn strategies and tips to make the most of your participation in your courses.
