Arrive Ready is a free online program for incoming first-year Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George campus students. Participate in one or more of the following modules and sign up to join or lead an Arrive Ready study group to prepare for your first year of studies, meet new friends and connect with professors.
Arrive Ready to Study Humanities
Dates: July 24-August 18, 2023
Schedule: Online asynchronous (you are not required to attend at a specific time) modules, with optional synchronous study group

Get an inside view of what to expect in your upcoming humanities classes. Arrive Ready learning modules will be available to you in Quercus, U of T’s online learning platform, starting July 24. Each week, you can engage in new self-guided learning activities developed with U of T faculty members to prepare for your first year. Activities include university-level lectures, academic prep material and tools to develop your study skills for humanities courses such as philosophy, history, literature, media studies and more. You will also gain helpful tips from upper-year students. No registration required.
Lead or Join an Arrive Ready Study Group
Meet your peers and future classmates by signing up to lead or join an Arrive Ready to Study Humanities study group! All students are encouraged to participate in an Arrive Ready study group to deepen your learning of course material and start building your U of T community. Study groups will meet weekly for the four-week duration of Arrive Ready to Study.

Arrive Ready to Communicate in English
Arrive Ready to Communicate in English
Dates: July 10 – 21, 2023
Time Commitment: 20 hours
Class Schedule: This is an online, asynchronous program with optional online, weekly synchronous tutorials Thursdays at 9:10 am (ET)
University education primarily involves expressing your understanding of your subject area and clearly articulating your ideas. This module is designed for students whose first language is not English to help you learn how to effectively express academic ideas in English through writing, speaking and course participation.

Arrive Ready to Communicate in English: Communicating with Peers
Dates: July 24 – August 18, 2023
Time Commitment: 12 hours
Class Schedule: This is an online, asynchronous program with optional online, weekly synchronous tutorials Thursdays at 9:10 am (ET)
This module is designed for students whose first language is not English to gain confidence and practice communicating with peers in study groups during the Arrive Ready program and beyond. Students will learn and practice skills and proactive behaviours to support group communication, discuss course material, build friendships and pose questions to peers, instructors and teaching assistants (TAs).

Arrive Ready to Write in Humanities
Dates: July 10 – 21, 2023
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours
Class Schedule: This online program can be taken as a self-guided module with optional classes, asynchronous recordings of all classes and optional writing activities. Alternatively, this online program can be taken as a course-based module with required, synchronous classes and writing activities. Synchronous class times will be:
- Tuesday, July 11 from 5 pm - 6 pm (ET)
- Thursday, July 13 from 12 pm - 1 pm (ET)
- Tuesday, July 18 from 11 am - 12 pm (ET)
- Thursday, July 20 from 9:30 am - 10:30 am (ET)
Arrive Ready to Write will help you prepare for the transition to university-level writing in Humanities courses. Upon completion of Arrive Ready to Write, you will be able to:
- Apply key concepts, skills and strategies in university-level reading and writing to your coursework
- Seek out and make use of available campus resources as part of your regular university life and work
- Work collaboratively and constructively within a scholarly community
