If you feel like a physical or mental illness is affecting your studies, you can contact any of the following resources for support.
- Speak to your Professor or TA and let them know of your illness. They may be able to make exceptions to deadlines or may direct you to other support services on campus
- Your College Registrar’s Office can help you with issues affecting your studies including illness and health-related emergencies
- The Health and Wellness Centre offers a wide range of physical and mental health services. For a physical illness, injury, or mental health services, you can call to see a doctor or a health professional.
- The Dean of Students and Student Life Office at your college can provide counselling for mental health issues
- Commuter and Residence Dons are a great resource because they know the best places to get help on campus. And since they are also students, they understand your perspective.
For chronic health issues, including mental health and temporary injuries, you should register with Accessibility Services as early in the year as possible. You may be eligible for academic accommodations that can support you when you’re experiencing symptoms, or recovering from a temporary issue/injury.
Petitions
You may be able to submit a petition for exceptions in your course or program. The petition would have to be submitted to the Faculty of Arts and Science Registrar’s Office. You can check out some common petition scenarios like deferred exams due to illness and extensions for assignment deadlines.
