Nobody likes being sick, especially if your illness is getting in the way of academic work. But don’t worry, there are different options available to you when you are ill.
Check your Syllabus AND INFORM YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Check your syllabus and review the course policy for missed tests. Let your instructor know you’re sick and unable to write your test. If your instructor requires documentation, you can either declare your absence on ACORN or provide a Verification of Illness or Injury Form (VOI) to support your request.
Declare your Absence on ACORN
If you are absent from a term test due to illness and need academic consideration for a missed academic obligation, you can formally declare your absence in ACORN by using the Absence Declaration Tool.
See the Student Absences page to learn about Absence Declaration and when you can use this tool.
Submit Supporting Documentation
If you have already made use of your absence declaration this term, you may need to provide supporting documentation (e.g., College Registrar’s Letter, Verification of Illness or Injury form) for other absences if you are seeking academic consideration for missed course work. The Verification of Illness or Injury form (also known as a “doctor’s note”) can be used to request special consideration for your missed term test.
Petitions
Petitions are required for final exams held during the final exam period and the deferred exam period. Learn more about the petition process and required documentation to support your request.
