There are over 40 different languages you can study during your time at U of T! Language courses can make great elective options and many courses count towards your degree.
Learning a new language is an exciting challenge that requires practice. You can practice new languages through a variety of programs on campus.
CIE Language Exchange
Through the Language Exchange, you can connect with other students interested in learning new languages. Your peers will help you learn a new language and in exchange, you can help facilitate their learning of a language that you know.
English Language Learning (ELL) programs
From mini-course to communication cafes, ELL offers you a variety of ways to practice reading, writing, and speaking in English.
For-Credit Language Courses
There are two types of language courses which you can take for credit.
- Language courses that count towards your minor, major or specialist program. Visit the Centre for Comparative Literature to see the types of languages available at U of T, or the Arts & Science Program Toolkit to see the minor, major and specialist language programs.
- Language and translation courses offered by the School of Continuing Studies can be taken outside of your undergraduate degree. You can sign up for individual courses or complete all of the courses for a certificate program.
