Where do I get help with research?

Research will be a big part of your undergraduate studies. Whether you’re researching an assignment, essay or lab report you’ll need to access the many resources available at the University of Toronto. So, how do you know where to start?

Research Guides

The Libraries provide guides that are filtered by keyword, subject, course code and library.

Online Databases and Catalogues

• Books, ebooks, journals, and more
• Articles and databases
• Maps and data
• Newspapers
• Audiovisual
• Government information
• Other library catalogues

Online Chat, “Ask: Chat with a librarian”

This chat tool connects you to librarians who can point you in the right direction. Just look for this icon on your library website landing pages.

In-person and Virtual Librarian Consultations

Student with Personal Librarian

You can make an appointment to discuss resource strategies and resources with a librarian.  You can also meet with librarians by looking up the appropriate library and contact information. Another great way to get in contact with a librarian for support would be to email them with your questions or research concerns.

Workshops

The libraries offer lots of research related workshops including how to use specific databases, start-up research accelerators, strategies for citing and more.
