What do I do when I get a lower grade than expected?

There may be a time in your academic career that you think you did really well in a course but were shocked by the final grade you received. There are people to talk to and resources in place should you have received a lower grade than expected.

Talk to your professor or TA

If you are unhappy with your final grade and you’re not sure where you went wrong, ask for help to interpret the feedback and clarity.

Since final assessments and tests are overseen by academic units and instructors, you can talk to your instructor about viewing or re-grading a final assessment.

Discuss your options with an Academic Advisor

Your College Registrar’s office has Academic Advisors who can provide academic counselling and help you look at your academic options.

Tips

Resiliency is an important skill to have. If you’re disappointed in your grade, be sure to take any constructive criticism that may have been provided and turn it into a positive learning experience. No one is perfect!
