Program Exploration Assistant
As part of the Student Success Programs team in the Faculty of Arts & Science, the Program Exploration Assistant will work under the supervision of the Student Success Programs Officer and the Associate Director, Student Success to support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a suite of initiatives aimed to support students’ success with program exploration and selection.
Program Exploration initiatives support students through a key transition within their undergraduate experience, specifically the exploration, application, acceptance/refusal, and integration into a program of study in A&S. Initiatives will be designed and implemented throughout the year, providing just-in-time support for the various phases of the program selection process. This role will be tasked with supporting the planning and implementation of initiatives and resources designed to support students’ program selection process.
The Program Exploration Assistant will be responsible for:
- Developing an understanding of the needs of students as it relates to program exploration and selection.
- Helping to facilitate and support the logistics of high-quality program exploration resources, events, and initiatives.
- Liaise with campus partners and serve as a resource on behalf of Arts & Science.
- Develop and contribute to the production of content and resources to support exploration and knowledge acquisition that is inclusive of diverse student pathways.
- Support in disseminating information relevant to students regarding program exploration and selection.
- Assist with implementation of in-person and online events.
- Compile and analyze survey and evaluation results, both quantitative and qualitative.
- Prepare reports and written documentation as assigned.
- Conduct literature and best practice research on assigned topics.
- Monitor email account and respond promptly to questions, queries, and concerns.
- Attend weekly meetings and regular one-on-ones with your supervisor.
- Attend scheduled training sessions.
- Creating and completing a professional development plan to support your own growth and development.
- Demonstrating integrity and responsible conduct with all interactions.
- Adhering to confidentiality policies and University policies.
- Reporting any issues of importance or concern to the Student Success Programs Team.
Note: The university is based in Toronto and constituted according to Ontario law; therefore, it is our expectation that the provision of services to the university will be conducted in Ontario.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be a third- or fourth-year student enrolled in an Arts & Science Specialist or Major
- Must have completed at least 9.0 credits as of the coming September
- Good academic standing
- Experience developing and delivering programs for students and/or small group facilitation
- Strong ability to reflect on, and communicate about, student experiences
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to work effectively with staff and faculty
- Strong interest and passion to help students explore and build resilience in the face of refusal
- Strong understanding of equity, diversity & inclusion practices and experience working with diverse populations
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Familiarity with program selection process and associated Arts & Science resources and policies
- Accurate data and information entry and attention to detail
- Values teamwork, working effectively with others, as well as independently
- Self-starter who takes initiative to support team members with larger projects and shares ideas during team meetings
- Experience with project management, asset
- A current undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George
- Must be enrolled in at least 2.0 FCE (full course equivalent); minimum 0.5 credits in one session and 1.5 credits in the other.
- Must continue to meet the eligibility course load for the duration of the contract.
- Students who self-identify as having a disability are eligible to participate in the Work Study program at a reduced course load
Program Exploration Assistant will be required to work up to 6-10 hours per week, including attending weekly meetings.
Rate of pay: $19.00/hour
This position is intended to fall under work study. Please note, you can only hold one work study role during the 2024-2025 academic year.
