Participating in an internship as part of your undergraduate degree is a great way to get a head start on gaining work experience and expanding your professional network. It’s also an opportunity to apply the concepts you learn in class in a professional context. Here are a few ways you can find internship opportunities at the Faculty of Arts & Science.
Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP)
ASIP is open to eligible students who are enrolled in specific Arts & Science programs. Once accepted into ASIP, you take professional development courses designed to help you explore careers, find a job and build skills for workplace success. You then work full-time as a paid intern in a job related to your area of study for 12, 16 or 20 months total. Throughout the program, you have access to resources like a job board, workshops, networking events and personalized support from the ASIP team. Learn more about how ASIP works.
Departmental Opportunities
Some academic units offer for-credit or co-curricular internships and other work-integrated learning opportunities for their students. For example, the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures offers iPRAKTIKUM, an internship course that connects students with opportunities in German-speaking countries. To find these opportunities, you can check the department websites of any programs you are enrolled in. You may also want to connect with the Arts & Science Experiential Learning & Outreach Support Office, your academic unit or your College Registrar’s Office to see what might be available to you, and to help verify whether an opportunity may be for-credit or supplementary to your degree.
Career & Co-Curricular Learning Network (CLNx)
Students at all three U of T campuses can use CLNx to search more than 13,000 full-time, part-time and summer positions in the off-campus, on-campus and work study job boards. You can use CLNx to search for internships in addition to volunteer opportunities, co-curricular activities and career resources.
Sidney Smith Commons Summer Internship
During the summer, the Faculty of Arts & Science hires students to assist with peer-based programming offered through the Sidney Smith Commons (SSC). SSC interns provide support and academic wayfinding for new and current students through email, live chat, interactive webinars and more. The summer internship is a great way to help other students while gaining work experience and building on your current knowledge of Arts & Science and U of T. SSC Summer Internship positions are typically posted on the SSC Job Postings page in January with applications due in February.
