RECOGNIZED STUDY GROUP ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of the Student Success Programs team in the Faculty of Arts & Science (A&S), Recognized Study Group (RSG) Study Group Assistants will work under the supervision of the Student Success Programs Officer to support the RSG program, as well as assist with the delivery of other programs, events, and academic opportunities to support the success of A&S students. RSG Study Group Assistants will be trained in group facilitation techniques, collaborative learning techniques and academic skill-building strategies to support the success of RSGs and RSG Leaders. RSG Study Group Assistants will help with RSG program promotion, training of volunteer RSG Leaders and overall program support.
This is an excellent opportunity to build on current knowledge of the supports that exist for students in A&S and the University of Toronto, as well as strategies to support the success of our diverse student community including students who have joined the faculty through an access program, Black, Indigenous or racialized students, students with a disability, students of religious/spiritual communities, 2SLGBTQ+ students, commuter students and mature students.
RSG Study Group Assistants will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the facilitation of online and in-person RSG leader trainings
- Providing ongoing support to RSG leaders
- Supporting the administration of RSG program
- Supporting the online and in-person promotions of the RSG program
- Facilitating study groups for specific RSGs as needed
- Providing peer support and/or assisting with the facilitation of workshops to support A&S students
- Supporting ongoing communication to program participants and leaders
- Assisting in creating a supportive, positive community space where students can engage in academic pursuits
- Liaising with A&S student organizations, including student associations & clubs
- Adhering to confidentiality policies and University policies
- Reporting any issues of importance of concern regarding the RSG program with the Student Success Programs Team
- Supporting Sidney Smith Commons events and programming offered by the Student Success Programs Team as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- A familiarity with the A&S community and resources at the University of Toronto
- Experience as a member of an RSG or an RSG Leader is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication, listening and conflict resolution skills
- Experience in program delivery and/or small group facilitation
- Strong ability to reflect on, and communicate about, student experiences
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Strong understanding of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion practices and experience working with diverse populations
- Knowledge of customer service principles; experience in customer service, an asset
- Experience using Microsoft Excel an asset
- Good academic standing (minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.50)
- Students must be enrolled in at least 2.0 FCE (full course equivalent) per term.
- Students who self-identify as having a disability are eligible to participate in the Work Study program at a reduced course load.
Group Assistants will be scheduled to work approximately 6-10 hours per week, including bi-weekly SLC sessions and team meetings, up to a maximum of 200 hours over the fall 2024 and winter 2025 terms. This position will be part of the University of Toronto work study program (subject to approval). Please note, students are only eligible to hold one work study position during the 2024-2025 academic year.
This position requires regular evening shifts and periodic weekend shifts. Work shifts are typically scheduled between 9 am and 7:30 pm Monday to Thursday and between 9 am and 5 pm on Friday.

As part of the Student Success Programs team in the Faculty of Arts & Science (A&S), Senior Study Group Assistants will work under the supervision of the Student Success Programs Officer and the Associate Director, Student Success to support the Recognized Study Group (RSG) program and the Study Group Assistant student-staff team in the Sidney Smith Commons. The RSG program supports A&S students in forming small, student-led study groups and valuable tools to support their academic success. Senior Groups Assistants will support the development, delivery and assessment of the RSG program, as well as assist with the delivery of other programs, events and academic opportunities to support the success of A&S students.
Senior Study Group Assistants are responsible for:
- Supporting the daily tasks and development of the Study Groups Assistants
- Conducting one on one meetings with Study Group Assistants
- Build strong, trusting relationships to support the overall positive team culture
- Manage Study Group Assistant staff with scheduling and administrative tasks
- Supporting the administration of the RSG program
- Organizing and monitoring email inquiries in the RSG and Senior RSG email accounts ensuring inquiries are distributed to appropriate people
- Supporting the oversight of communication to RSG participants and Group Assistants to ensure all are aware of important deadlines including CCR and program requirements
- Supporting the oversight of RSG registration and group formation processes administered through the Sidney Smith Commons (SSC) website and Quercus

SIDNEY SMITH COMMONS ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of the Student Success Programs team, Faculty of Arts & Science (A&S), the Sidney Smith Commons Assistants will work under the supervision of the Student Success Programs Officer and the Associate Director, Student Success, to provide peer support through the use of the Sidney Smith Commons (SSC) with customer service excellence. This will include assisting students in person and online with academic wayfinding, assisting with space use, space booking and lobby table booking, as well as assist with the delivery of programs, events, and academic opportunities to support the success of Arts & Science students. In addition, students will serve as A&S ambassadors and will represent the Faculty and the University of Toronto at on and off-campus recruitment events and activities throughout the year.
Sidney Smith Commons Assistants will be responsible for:
- Assisting with online and in-person academic wayfinding to provide students with accurate and helpful information, referrals and support
- Providing peer support in person and virtually, including through email, live chat and webinars
- Assisting in the development and updating of online communication and social media content
- Assisting in creating a supportive, positive community where students can engage in academic pursuits
- Supporting SSC events and programming offered by the Student Success Programs Team
- Managing the space booking and daily turn-over of bookable spaces in the SSC
- Managing the lobby table bookings and daily turn-over of bookable tables in the Sidney Smith Lobby

RECOGNIZED STUDY GROUP OUTREACH ASSISTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
As part of the Student Success Programs team in the Faculty of Arts & Science (A&S), the Recognized Study Group (RSG) Outreach Assistant will work under the supervision of the Student Success Programs Officer, to support student participation in the RSG program and other student success programs. The RSG Outreach Assistant will be trained in student outreach, facilitation techniques, group study strategies, and important academic and community building resources.
The RSG Outreach Assistant position is intended for first-year students who are RSG Leaders to help increase the engagement and opportunities for first-year students within the RSG program. No prior experience in academic support, facilitation or A&S programing is required. Strong candidates will have an eagerness to support a positive undergraduate A&S experience and contribute to effective student, academic and community development.
